The Vox populi survey we conducted in the month of May on about 70 respondents investigated the impact of digital technology on the quality of life in general, as well as on the work atmosphere and private life.
Most respondents have never undergone a digital detox
As expected, as many as 85% of respondents stated that they used digital devices too much, but it is interesting to note that most still believe they have a positive relationship with digital technology. Therefore, 60% of respondents stated that they had never had a digital detox. The majority (57%) said that they prefer to spend their free time with offline activities, including a break from work.
Although workplaces should be ergonomically adjusted, reality is often different; this is supported by the fact that 60% of respondents do not have adequate equipment such as a keyboard, mouse and chair in their workplace. Also, more than half of the respondents do not think that employers encourage them sufficiently (or to any extent) to “unwind” after working hours and dedicate themselves to activities that do not pertain to their work.
How the impossible became possible
When we talk about the impact of digital technologies on our everyday life, we can conclude that there are without a doubt some visible changes in the way people think and do business. Only 22% of respondents have a corner in their home where they do not use digital devices, 27% of them do not use any applications in order to track the time they spend on their cell phone, and even fewer feel the need for advice on how to use smart phones with minimized negative consequences, which leads us to the conclusion that we have all together mostly embraced the digitization process.
Nowadays, digital technology is no longer a matter of choice, it is inevitable, and it is up to us to set reasonable screen time limits for ourselves. Given the current situation with social distancing, we are witnessing an increased use of technology, and we should definitely make the most of all the good it brings us, while ensuring adequate workplace conditions and setting limits for ourselves in our private life.
